FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN BELIEFS

We are a congregation of God’s people committed to serving in the name of Christ, and eager to grow in faith together. Our Pastor, staff, and members stand ready to help you in any way that we can, and we invite you to share in all that is happening among us.

We confess the apostolic faith in Jesus Christ according to the Holy Scriptures. We affirm the authority of the Scriptures as the authoritative source and norm. We accept the ecumenical creeds and the Lutheran Confessions as true witnesses to the Word of God. We believe that the mission of the Church is to preach the Gospel and to make disciples for Christ.

Small groups play a vital role at First English. We invite you to become a member of one of our small groups. Contact the church office for more information on our small group ministries.

We place a high priority on Christian Education as a means of growing in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through our enthusiastic teachers, we encourage all to take advantage of opportunities to be spiritually nurtured at our church.

AFFILIATIONS & CONNECTIONS

The Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) is an association of Lutheran congregations located primarily in the United States. It describes itself as an affiliation of autonomous Lutheran churches and not a denomination. It began in 2001 in response to some liberal views of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). LCMC is characterized by the stances it takes on Lutheran polity, biblical authority, and human sexuality. The group describes itself as “centrist” or “mainstream”, noting that it stands between the more liberal ELCA and the more conservative Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS) and other Lutheran church bodies in North America.

As Lutherans, we are a part of a global church.  Through many and various means, we minister to each other as one body in Christ when we give to the mission of the church. This involves both local and global ministries including:

  • Lutheran World Relief
  • Salvation Army
  • Christ’s Kitchen in Victoria
  • Victoria Christian Assistance Ministry (VCAM)
  • Habitat for Humanity Homes and Volunteerism
  • Annual Giving Tree in December
  • Annual Heritage Day
  • Oromo Ethiopian Lutheran Church
  • A.R.K. (Acts of Random Kindness) local projects

We Hope to See You Soon!
